SPC says decision made ‘due to worsening weather conditions’
Lack of available berth space at Heysham combined with worsening weather conditions saw the cancellation of further sailings this evening (21 August).
It also led to the Ben-my-Chree returning to the Island empty.
The Steam Packet Company cancelled the remainder of tonight’s scheduled sailings just after 7pm.
In a statement it said: “The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to the cancellation of the Ben-my-Chree’s return sailings to and from Heysham this evening.
“The decision to cancel was made due to worsening weather conditions which compromised the safety of our passengers and crew.
“Additionally there was a shortage of available berth space at Heysham.
“This necessitated that we vacate the linkspan due to berth slot time restrictions further affecting our ability to maintain the delayed service.
“We understand the significant impact this has had on travel plans at a busy time of year. We sincerely apologise for the disruption.
“Our team is working diligently to ensure – as far as possible – we are able to offer alternative arrangements.
“Safety remains our highest priority and we appreciate your understanding and patience during this challenging situation.”
